How we work

Too often, strong research struggles to gain traction beyond publication. We founded Partners in Research to help organizations and researchers move evidence into action — in ways that are practical, sustainable, and grounded in real-world context.

  • We provide practical, tailored support at the intersection of research, implementation science, and knowledge sharing.

Our role is to work alongside you bringing structure, momentum, and clarity to complex initiatives without taking over your research. We help you move from ideas to implementation with focus and intention. Whether you are launching a new initiative, strengthening partnerships, or planning for impact, we help you design clear pathways forward. Work with us on your:

  • Our approach is grounded in the belief that lasting, positive change happens through reciprocal, equitable, and transparent relationships. Our practice draws on evidence-informed strategies, implementation science methodologies, and knowledge mobilization tools. We balance relational trust-building with methodological rigor, ensuring your work is both collaborative and credible.

    We focus on:

    • Strong, values-driven partnerships

    • Context-specific solutions (no off-the-shelf templates)

    • Equity-informed processes

    • Practical, tangible deliverables

    • Clear plans that prioritize progress over unnecessary process

We know our partners are busy. We respect your time by creating structure without bureaucracy and momentum without overwhelm.

  • Ultimately, we want researchers, organizations, and communities to fully realize the value of the effort they put into research.

    That means:

    • Work that is used

    • Partnerships that are strengthened

    • Outcomes that are sustained

    • Communities that benefit

  • Huge thanks to the many advisors and contributors who helped us get PiRBC off the ground. Thank you colleagues and friends from the University of British Columbia, Health Research BC, St. Paul’s Hospital, Canadian Institute for Health Research, United Way BC and the Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute.

And our special thanks to Clare Kiernan, the incredible creator behind the Partners in Research BC logo.

  • Partners in Research is shaped by experience working across health systems, universities, and non-profit organizations — largely in British Columbia. Co-founders Gen and Katie together have over 30 years of experience working with communities, non-profits, health providers, research institutes and researchers who believe in the power of relationships to affect positive systems change.

We understand the realities of cross-sector collaboration, public systems, and community-engaged work. And we bring that perspective to every partnership.
